![]() Why is that?Ī: In 2017, AOL opted to shut down its self-contained AOL Desktop program for a more streamlined version of it, called "AOL Desktop Gold."Īccording to AOL ( ), the new version is "more secure and faster" than previous versions of the product, contains a two-step verification process for sign in and setup, houses an updated web browser and more. However, all my friends who use AOL said they did not receive this message and that they are still using the free version without issue. Well, that’s exactly what happened, so I signed up with them. Some months ago I received a message from AOL saying that if I did not move to their new AOL Desktop Gold product (for $4.99 a month), then I would be dropped from their service. Then I was told that a free version was available, and I switched to that - and I kept using that version for years. In the beginning I was paying $40 a month to use the service. Desperation isnt even a 10th of how I feel.Q: I have been an AOL user since I acquired my first computer in the '90s. Please, please, if anyone has a workaround, I'd appreciate knowing. Yes, I know I can buy a separate keyboard. I can set it up and run the printer off of it, but My last resort is going to be a laptop I have withich as one of those versions of AOL. One with Windows 10, the other with XP Pro installed. ![]() Is there any way we can do what we want? Ive got 2 computers. At present, there are 3 very critical business items waiting on directions and response from ![]() Right now, she can handle things herself. Going to mean I'll have to print off her email and take it over to her house every day and then wait for her to answer it. Mom is still active in business affairs which need her attention. Shes got a little dementia showing up, and trying to teach them something new is useless. THeres no sense to try and get her to use something completely different Thats what she was used to ahd had been using. All I want is the interface for AOL 8 or 9.0, or one of those versions. I cannot tell you how desperate I am to get something she can use. Perhaps the OS was the problem, so we got a workstation with XP Pro on it, and tried reinstalling one of the older versions of AOL. She really needs access to her email again. ![]() What AOL made her install was AOL Gold, and shes having a tough time with it. Somewhere, somehow, her AOL disappeared, and we cannot get it back to a format shes used to using. Up until lately shes been using her email just fine, What she was used to was AOL 8.0 or Desktopĩ.0. She is normally as sharp as someone 40 years younger. My mother is 94, and has been in and out of the hospital or rehab for a lot of this year. ![]()
